Northwestern graduate students have a broad range of technical skills and research interests. The AI Graduate Group seeks to connect AI enthusiasts across the campus to realize opportunities for collaboration and build community among graduate students. The group is not limited to computer scientists, rather the members range across many disciplines and schools. Gourav is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the McCormick School of Engineering. His research focuses on engineered biomaterials with programmable behavior, and he is particularly interested in exploring the applications of AI in material discovery and material design. After a short stint of working in the energy industry as a simulation engineer, he has now joined IDEAL group led by Dr. Wei Chen as well as Computational Nanodynamics group led by Dr. Sinan Keten, at Northwestern University.

Shicheng Li is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the McCormick School of Engineering. He is interested in utilizing AI to automate the engineering process as well as people’s daily life. His research focuses on the inverse design and optimization of soft robotics and automatic decision-making. He is also passionate about learning and spreading the knowledge of AI for educational purposes.
